Fall 2003 - We have two wonderful cats. Guinness (nicknamed Ginny) is a four year-old ginger tabby DSH with regal expectations. Smithwick (nicknamed Smitty) is a two year-old mixed white and tabby DSH who is a real clown. Both kitties came to us as adoptees at the same time from the Washington, DC animal shelter. Smitty loves to play with Ginny. Ginny is not quite as enthusiastic about his existence. Pictures follow and 2008 Update is below:

Update 2008 -- moved to Ireland in June 2007!Our cats made the journey after going through the complicated process of microchipping, vacination, blood testing, waiting 6 months, testing again, and certification. This avoids the need for a 6 month quarantine in Ireland. The trip was expensive -- between all the Vet work and transportation, we estimate it at just under $1000 per cat! Now that we are here, the cats think they have gone to heaven. We let Ginny out by herself. She doesn't go far from the bowl, mostly staying in the back yard or walking around with us. She likes to watch a particular hole in a pile of rocks where she once saw a mouse. Who says cats don't have memories. Smitty, on the other hand, is Mr. Adventure. He keeps trying to go into the road, and we do not want a flat cat, so we are trying to train him -- HA -- to stay out of it by walking him on a leash with a harness. He's very good when on the leash -- walks around slowly investigating everything, eats a little grass, comes back to the back door when he's had enough. However, each time he's been off the leash it has been -- Bolt for the Road! or Over the Fence to the neighbor's barn. That one is okay, but he is too dumb to figure out how to get back. We'll keep working with him. Newer pictures are below.

Four Strays who "showed up". We found homes for three little ones -- and we were going to keep the larger long hair cat as a shop cat. We named her Cuddles -- 'cause she did. Sadly, she died post surgery. The vet said probably a blood clot. She had a short life, but at least the last few weeks of it she was loved, warm, and well fed. |

| Strays teasing Smits -- he wants to run with the pack, too. Ginny just wanted to defend her territory. |
